Some people have thought about taking up fishing, but have never really had a good reason to start. If you are one of those people you should start now developing a good reason to go fishing. If you’re having trouble coming up with your own reasons, here are ten reasons to start fishing now. First, you should start fishing in order to relax. In society today everything is so stressful that we need some outlet to relax. Fishing is the perfect activity to relax and unwind from the pressures of the world. Second, it is an activity that will allow you to go outdoors. Too many people spend their lives either in their house or their office; they never get outdoors, and getting fresh air and sunshine help keep people healthy. When you do one activity outdoors you tend to be happier and not depressed.

Fishing becomes a hobby to be involved in. Having a good healthy hobby allows your mind to think about things other than work. It gives your mind exercise by thinking about fun happy things. Fourth, catching fish gives you a free source of healthy high protein food. A diet of good fresh fish will help you lose weight and promote your brain power. This is actually one of the best reasons to go fishing.

Another story came out of Arizona. Robert Lawler broke the state record for the largest redeared sunfish. While he was fishing at Lake Havasu, in northern Arizona, he caught his record fish. The fish weighed a little over 5.5 lbs and has a length of 16.75 inches and girth of 19 inches. Lawler’s fish not only broke the old record but smashed it by almost 31%. The previous record was a mere 4.24 lbs that was also caught at Lake Havasu.

The next thing is to decide which lake you’re going fishing on. It is mush easier to learn how to fish on a lake or pond than moving water. After that you need to decide if you will fish from the shore or from a boat. Fishing from a boat is more exciting and will you allow you to move from place to place if the fish aren’t biting. If you’re fishing from a boat a fish finder should be in your future. While it is not a required piece of equipment there are a few anglers who would disagree that they are a pleasure to use. It is generally the boat owner’s responsibility to purchase the fish finder.

However, if you’re visualizing yourself fishing while sitting on a lawn chair with a rod set up in front of you and you’re sipping a cup of coffee or other beverage, then shore fishing is for you. Now you’re ready to go out and get started. Good luck.
